How to Program Your Chevy Key Fob

Chevy Key Fob Programming in Eight Easy Steps

Intending to program your Chevy key fob? Whether it’s a Chevy Malibu key fob or Chevy Silverado key fob you want to program, the process is virtually the same:

1. Manually unlock your car door using your Chevy key.
2. Shut all car doors, get inside the vehicle, and insert the key into the ignition, but don’t start the vehicle.
3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door, then turn your key to the “On” position. Your radio and interior lights should turn on, but the engine should NOT be on.
4. Turn the key back to the “Off” position, then turn it to “On” and then back to “Off” again. (That sequence, for convenience’s sake, is “On – Off – On – Off.”)
5. Let go of the unlock button.
6. After letting go of the unlock button, your Chevy’s door locks should engage and disengage, which is a sign that the programming sequence is beginning.
7. On your Chevy key fob, depress the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons at the same time until you hear the door locks engage and then disengage. If you hear this, congratulations: you’ve successfully programmed your Chevy Silverado, Malibu, or remote start key fob!
8. Put the newly-programmed key into the ignition and move to the “On” position to finalize the programming sequence.
